A joint show featuring new work by each of these much-loved landscape artists.
About
Dart Gallery has shown Colin Willey’s elegant plein-air paintings and Claire Wiltsher’s impressionist landscapes for over 10 years. This May the gallery will launch a two-person show featuring new work from each.
Colin has travelled around the South Hams, setting his easel up at his favourite spots and working on location in the tradition of ‘plein air’ painting. He intends that you can sense him ‘battling with the wind, the rain, the flies, the drama of an approaching rain storm and the approaching herd of inquisitive cows’. He’s captured Dartmouth, Dittisham, Start Bay, Salcombe and Hope Cove in a timeless fashion. Claire has also travelled the South Hams coast and further afield. Her work, completed in her studio, avoids total recognition, allowing the viewer to project their own feelings into her work.
Both are prize-winning artists, Colin’s work has been exhibited by the Mall Galleries, The Laing Gallery, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and The New England Art Club. Claire has many accolades, most recently winning the Russell and Chapple canvas prize at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition in 2019. Paintings by both Colin and Claire feature in the Parliamentary Art Collection after being purchased by the House of Lords.
