About
Christian Haake. on displays
February 7th, to March 21th, 2019 / Extented until March 29th, 2019
Christian Haake’s formally reduced objects, carefully constructed and multi-layered to the last detail, lead a shimmering existence between sculpture, painting and drawing. Produced using industrial production methods and at first glance they look like architectural fragments. The decisive impetus for his works, however, came from a voyage by train; he was most struck by the view out the window as the landscape raced by, its contours and colours melting together into an “after-image”. This grey area between remembered image and imagination forms the basis for his work. In every piece Haake investigates, as Stephan Berg aptly wrote, “the fine gap in the difference, which runs between layers. The goal is not to confirm the correlation between reality and perception, but instead to subtly and poetically destabilize it.”
