Introducing the first solo show from Bristol artist Chris Hubley. Chris makes creatures and landscapes that are full of magic. Using the craft of needle felting, he creates work inspired by folklore that can be fun and childlike but with a dark edge, just like the stories they are based on. I am interested in folklore, mythology and the pagan history of this land and beyond. For me the craft of manifestation is a sacred act, as I breathe life into materials with my magic felting needle wand. I tell stories with texture and colour, creating a world of imagination, beauty and wildness, where the darkness comes to life and creatures call to you from across the threshold. Beauty is transformative, and beautiful things have the power to affect us on a deep level. The organic nature of the materials is mirrored in the organic nature of the forms created, beings and scenes that appear to have been grown rather than built, and life creeps out of every fibre."
