About
'The older I get, the more I appreciate things. I appreciate my children, my family and my friends more than I could possibly say but I also appreciate the simple thing, the normal everyday things which life is overflowing with. And this is the driving force behind all my current art work.
The work I create is inspired by the beautiful ordinary. The light shining on crinkled tin foil, the patterns in a crystal glass, the highlight on a fresh olive- I find joy in the everyday the mundane, the often overlooked. In a world where we all seem in a rush to get to somewhere, we often whizz past so many interesting things without even noticing them and I hope my work makes people stop and look at some ordinary things through fresh eyes.
As it is the detail that real life offers that drive my work, it is the realistic style that I adopt in my work and I strive to render my chosen subject matters with as much realism as I can. In doing this, not only does it make me appreciate every highlight, every shape and every colour within that subject as I draw or paint it, I hope it also brings some appreciation from the viewer about how visually rich the everyday world can be.
I hope that everyone can begin to find joy in the beautiful ordinary. '
