Catrin Webster - In Transit; the Travel Project

Catrin Webster has been studying the experience of landscape in paint for many years. This exhibition will include paintings and drawings, many of them large canvases painted during her travels, which extend her interpretation of seeing the natural and built environment. She has also used recordings of travelling to stimulate an immediate act of drawing, in effect giving the story of a journey on one surface of paper. Intensely personal and immediate, full of colour and gesture, this new work encourages the viewer to experience landscape in a transformed way. The exhibition will also show the results of work Catrin has been making with school students in Aberystwyth and Birmingham in the Travel Project, where children have followed the artist's thinking and methods of working to produce their own work on their train journeys between Aberystwyth and Birmingham.
