Carla Busuttil: Rug & Gum & Gut

Carla graduated from the Royal Academy in 2008 and featured recently in Saatchi's Newspeak show last year. She has made a very powerful body of new paintings for the show which continue her investigation into abuses of power and the individuals or groups of people that are responsible for such acts. There is an ambiguity over subject matter in the paintings, although it is clear that these characters have perpetrated something - and through her quick brushstrokes, the build up of paint, her sense of expressionism, and the strength and boldness of colour, she is placing them and their acts up for scrutiny.
