Bruce Ingram - A New Constellation

About

For his solo exhibition at Vitrine Gallery, Bruce Ingram will present a selection of new sculptures and wall-mounted works. These works will be presented in a site-specific installation.

The creative output of the artist's studio has become an intrinsic element within the development of Ingram's practise. Processes of making and experimentation are highlighted within this display. Prior to this exhibition; Ingram inlaid temporary wooden boards on the floor and walls of his studio. These boards physically capture the working processes of the studio environment; dripping paint, puddles of plaster and paper off cuts are collected and salvaged upon the surface of these boards. Within the gallery, these boards will be edited and collaged to form a backdrop to the artworks displayed in the exhibition.

Central to this display, is a series of plinth-based sculptures, abstract in form. These works - 'Elevations' - accumulate and arrange a mixture of sculpted materials and accidental outcomes. Alongside this, a series of wall based collages further traces a working process; paper fragments are pinned upon polystyrene canvasses, finding an order and composition through the arrangement on the picture plane.

By highlighting the evidence of a working process, Ingram endeavours to bring part of his studio experience to the public nature of Vitrine Gallery. 'A New Constellation' re-orders the artist's studio, incorporating the working process alongside the artworks.

Ingram is interested in the chance encounters and accidental moments within the process of making. The studio has become a capsule of stored information, the waste and by product of making, often informing the outcomes of new works.

Bruce Ingram (b.1981, Falmouth) lives and works in London. He graduated with a MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 2008. Recent exhibitions include Virtually Real, The Stanley and Audrey Gallery, Leeds University (Leeds), This is Still Life, Monument 2 Gallery (Chicago) and Bermuda Triangle, Spring Projects (London).
