Bruce Hamilton is the third generation in his family to work in the timber trade and has over thirty years of experience making furniture.

In 1979 he started working as an apprentice for James E. Robertson & Sons. He worked in their workshops and helped fitting out pubs, clubs and hotels, which gave him the foundation knowledge that would eventually lead to him to become a furniture maker. In 1990 he decided he would start his own business so he attended a government business start-up course and created his first workshop in his father’s double garage.

At last Bruce Hamilton Furniture Makers was established in 1991 and with great success ever since. Bruce Hamilton Furniture Makers has an impressive portfolio of commissions, including furniture for The House for an Art Lover, Willow Tearooms, Chapel furniture for the maternity unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, choir stalls for Paisley Abbey, in addition to international customers in the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia. With commissions from all over the world for furniture, the company continues to provide a high level of service to customers offering Charles Rennie Mackintosh reproductions, bespoke and ecumenical pieces.

Bruce Hamilton has kindly loaned some of his reproductions for The Lighthouse’s Mackintosh Interpretation Centre for many years. These new pieces bring some of Mackintosh’s rarer designs to life. For more information please visit: www.brucehamilton.co.uk/
