Black and White in Colour - Angela Easterling
A solo show of internationally respected Photogram artist Angela easterling
About
Black and White in Colour celebrates the magical
quality of Angela Easterling‘s photograms. The artist
creates colour photo images without employing a
camera or darkroom equipment, and using only silver
gelatin black and white paper. The exhibition
considers the atomic chemistry taking place during
sun exposures that generate pinks, purples, scarlets,
even blue and greens that gleam from the paper of
her unique contact prints. A silver “alchemy” takes
place, no image can ever be truly reproduced.
The exhibition explores nature, body prints, Adam and
Eve in alien form, glowing photograms of plants,
some you might find in your garden, others critically
endangered; rare and collected by the artist on
commissioned expeditions for Kew Gardens and the
Eden Project.
While Angela Easterling‘s work refers back both to
the dawn of photography and the photogenic
drawings of Fox Talbot, her images are without doubt
contemporary, stylish and thought provoking.
