Bittersweet brings together a group of contemporary practicing artists in a surprising mix of celebration and uncertainty. Throughout the paintings, photography, sculpture and performance work landscape looms large. From epic wilderness to urban temporality, from horrors of war to awesome acts of nature, from imagination to concrete reality the viewer is confronted with images of the visible world. Yet between the works runs the tentative silver thread of less obvious intentions such as the interplay of man and nature; the constant attempt and failure to control our surroundings in the search for some unobtainable and undefined perfection while underlying feelings and intentions may be hidden or obscured.
Artists Iman Awadh, Sarah Bold, Lydia Brain, James Cliff, Abigail Lipski, Fiona Masterton, Tessa Mo, Naya Passaris, Jonathan Small, Lara Thomson and Sophia Vincent.
