About
The term 'Biomorphic' (also referred to as organic abastraction) was first used in 1936 and is frequently applied to the art of surrealist painters, Jean Arp and Joan Miro, as well as to the work of leading 20th century sculptors: Constantin Brancusi; Henry Moore; and Barbara Hepworth.
The work tends to emerge through intuitive processes, with the resulting forms often featuring holes and elipses, or suggesting human/animal qualities.
The sculptures of Graham High and Ian Knowles are firmly rooted in this tradition, with the exhibition including bronzes, original plasters and maquettes, plus a small selection of works on paper.
