About
Bill Stewart studied at Goldsmiths and the R A Schools winning the RAS Gold Medal for ‘excellence in painting’, David Murray Landscape award and Edward Stott travel scholarship. He has exhibited his work regularly over the years since, in solo and group shows. His paintings have been displayed multiple times in the RA's summer exhibition and Bill was selected to exhibit in John Moores 60 in 2018 in Liverpool.
This exhibition focuses on his memories of hitchhiking the USA and how painting develops an abstract connection to the views/landscape that he experienced. Circumstances meant that he slept out a lot at the time. He still does – when the North Devon nights are warm enough. In the night memories becomes fragmented and elusive.
