About

This exhibition explores the hidden histories of the First World War that go beyond the well-trodden trenches of the Western Front, refocusing on themes that have remained elusive. As seen through the prism of the Oxf and Bucks battalions’ experiences of the Italian, Balkan, Middle Eastern and Russian campaigns, a remarkable and graphic history emerges - one that also lucidly illustrates the truly global dimensions of the First World War and our role therein.

Revisiting this rich visual, material, and archival legacy, the displays will include student and volunteer research projects, WW1 artefacts on loan from Sofo and a series of stereoscopic (3D) images.

The exhibition will inform and engage with a remarkable perspective on the First World War, in light of the centenary commemorations and beyond.
