New works by sculptor Beth Carter
About
Beth Carter is based in Bristol. Her work often morphs the human figure with animal creating mythological creatures and extraordinary, complex and ambiguous fictional compositions. She is represented by galleries in the UK, New York, Boston and Paris and has work in private collections across Europe, USA, Canada, South America, Asia and Australia, and in the permanent collection at the Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins, France.
She graduated from Sunderland University with a degree in Fine Art in 1995 and embarked on a series of travels to pursue deeper knowledge of the ethnologic of figure making in sculpture. Beth’s sculptures revisit the characters of the Hellenic and European pantheon in the heavy, historically rich medium of bronze, re-situating them in the now, and drawing them out of ancient history to become complex, part-human, characterful characters in the contemporary world we inhabit. They are conceptually and technically striking, rich and highly skilled.
