Behind the Whitecoat is an international storytelling initiative to raise awareness of the ‘human aspects’ of working in the healthcare sector. We would like to explore the stories of resilience, difficulties and lived experiences of healthcare professionals who might have struggled with their mental health or burnout during and beyond the pandemic. This project is initiated by doctoral students in University of Oxford.
Introduction
The exhibition is composed of a series of objects, each one relating to a story shared with us by a healthcare professional about a time they have struggled working in the sector, or about a memorable moment that keeps them going.
We interviewed healthcare professionals in the UK, US and southeast Asia and invited them to share their stories and objects.
Every Object tells a story
Using objects to tell stories allows us to walk into their shoes in terms of their lives being on the frontline as well as provide a sense of solidarity for them. Our aim is to open a conversation about mental health with healthcare professionals all over the world.
