The distinct worlds of fashion and art collide in Bruno Glint's latest show ‘Behind the Seamz' where three international London-based fashion designers present their unique sartorial items and garments alongside an exposure of the more modest intricacies of process - the tools, notes, materials, sketches, photos and personal fragments of inspiration. The works of bespoke shoe-maker Scarlet Fever (AUS), hair and head-prop artist Tomihiro Kono (JPN) and knitwear designer Derek Lawlor (UK) are snatched away from the fashion-friendly familiarity of catwalks, photo studios and shop windows to be displayed on the plinths and planks of the Bruno Glint gallery. Presenting these multifaceted elements of influence and production, the life-blood of these bodies of finished work, ‘Behind the Seamz' chips off the dazzling armour of adornment and momentarily peels away the pleasure of the aesthetic façade in order to give the viewer a deeper glimpse into the inherently intellectual, historical and cultural associations that underpin the art of fashion design. ---------------------- KIRA GOODEY Scarlet Fever Footwear is the work of London-based bespoke shoemaker Kira Goodey. Formally a fashion designer, Kira ran her own label, Of Cabbages and Kings, and worked as a print designer for Alexander McQueen before embarking on a shoemaking apprenticeship with cordwainers Paul Thomas and Iliaz Iliazi. Scarlet Fever Footwear is handmade in East London using traditional English cordwaining techniques, developed hundreds of years ago, which combine with Kira's unique and innovative design approach to create highly comtempory pieces. www.scarletfeverfootwear.com/ TOMIHIRO KONO Born and raised in Japan and now based in London, Tomi started his career as a hair stylist in fashion before expanding his practice to include wig making and head props, which quickly became popular with stylists in London and Paris. His style is influenced by 1920-30s Dadaism and surrealist art, and is heavily inspired by post-WWII assemblage expressionism. With an impressive international client list and his work featured in a long list of worldwide fashion magazines, Tomi's practice has seen him collaborate across many different genres including art, fashion, music and performance. www.tomihirokono.com DEREK LAWLOR Derek Lawlor is a contemporary knitwear designer, a graduate of Central St Martin's 2009 MA Fashion Knitwear who has since built an impressive textile and fashion portfolio that speaks of both progress and individuality. Inspired by Japanese body armour, sculpture and architecture, Derek has developed a unique lace cord technique using wax cord to create organic sculptural shapes. Derek's complex designs straddle the boundaries between artwork and fashion, craft and performance, and led to a recent collaboration with The Royal Ballet. www.dereklawlor.com ---------------------- PRIVATE VIEW LIVE PERFORMANCES from: MARQUEZ&ZANGS (AR/FR) Marquez&Zangs is an artistic partnership between choreographers Mariana Lucà ­a Marquez (AR) and Emma Zangs (FR). Performing 'Unfashion', an abstract fashion show for four dancers. There is no designer nor designed clothes. The piece is structured as a part-scripted, part-improvised game between the choreographer and dancer, where the audience is invited to witness the process of the making of the work and its unique kind of failure. She is currently in her third year at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama studying Performance Arts. Her performance is based on the (de)construction of stereotypes through movement.
