Barcelona Gallery Weekend is an annual four-day event promoted by the galleries association Art Barcelona. It gathers a general programme of exhibitions in art galleries and a parallel programme of artistic interventions in public venues in Barcelona and its surroundings. It offers guided tours and social events to a local and international audience. From 10th to 13th October 2019 it will celebrate its fifth edition.
Barcelona Gallery Weekend seeks to reinforce and make visible the rich and varied artistic scene of Barcelona, promote art collecting and highlight the work of the galleries as culture generating spaces open to citizens, and the represented artists.
El Barcelona Gallery Weekend is the answer with its own seal to the longstanding involvement of the Art Barcelona association in the platforms for debate and coordination of local cultural strategies. Not forgetting its imbrication in the cultural fabric, the BGW attends to the specific interests of the twenty-eight art galleries that currently form the association, opening itself at the same time to other galleries in the city, as well as seeking the involvement of other agents.
With a professional programme it is mainly aimed at collectors, art critics and institutions representatives, both local and international. The organization designs personalized guided tours for our professional guests, so they discover the artistic offer of Barcelona and celebrate together the beginning of the new exhibition season.
The professional programme also designs specific social events and meetings to find information and exchange points of view with gallery owners and the event collaborators.
With its public programme, Barcelona Gallery Weekend is aimed at all the citizens of Barcelona and its surroundings. Art lovers who want to discover the city's artistic offer can visit all the exhibitions, attend the openings, special activities and presentations that take place during the four days. Barcelona Gallery Weekend provides the local programme with a weekend full of contemporary art and avant-garde activities. Its objective is also to communicate the existence of a permanent and continuous contemporary art programme, open to the public all year long.
