About

French photographer and film-maker Babette Mangolte presents her film The Camera: Je, La Camera: I (1977) which explores the act of shooting photographs using the medium of film. She uses the 'subjective camera' technique enabling the viewer to follow the photographer at work as she takes portraits in her studio and roams the streets of New York trying to capture the city's identity. The film's experimental cinematographic approach gives an insight into the power relationships between the subject and the photographer. The screening is followed by a Q and A with Mangolte and curator Fleur van Muiswinkel.
