How does it look when you capture sound in real time and modify it into a static light object? This is exactly what this second solo exhibition of the prominent Slovak artist Ašot Haas looks into, at DSC Gallery in Prague.

About

„We could say that this is my very first exhibition that has a unified thought. It isn’t concerned with different stories, but with one single theme analysed from different angles. Before, I used to do something like an „excerpt“ from my hyperactivity but in this case, it is purely about the light, the relief,“ mentioned Ašot Haas about the upcoming exhibition. „At the very beginning of this exhibition was a question, it doesn’t matter what question and I was not even trying to answer it but I began to look at it in contrast, from a completely different perspective. I began to consider it as pure sound, a frequency that you attempt to understand somehow. Then came the idea to work with sound. To connect these waves with the waves of light,“ says Ašot Haas about the physical basis of the exhibited objects.

All of the exhibited artworks were created by the same technology - using optical plexiglass, they vibrate sound and are light objects at the same time. Haas is building upon his previous optical visions, which have established him in the world of contemporary art and where he quickly gained his reputation.“ I began to work with this basic thought and continued to influence it with my coding. I connected it to softwares, so that the result is neither random nor a sketch by hand. It is a record that I progressively embellish and influence. Into the basic given code, I add precise geometrical structures and thus input a trace of myself into the final result - my answer,“ describes the artist. And from his answer it becomes clear that he is part of the post-internet generation of creators and artists who grew up online, surrounded by the constantly evolving electronic devices.

The exhibition Resonance of Sound, at its core, is concerned with the investigation of the relationship between philosophy, technology, neuroscience and nature. The talented artist reflects on current biological research and he does it in a very complex manner. „The philosophical and political dimension is not entirely my domain, but at the same time I think that in today’s world, it is important to discuss, leading an international dialogue and to mutually understand others. Without knowledge of the other frequencies, we do not know how to function and to remain human, it is necessary to mutually tune in with one another“ he says, about the exhibition.

Ašot’s work oscillates between the boundaries of design, sculpture and artistic glasswork; it is visionary and timeless with a well deserved acclaim at international art fairs and exhibitions, for example at the Maxxi Museum in Rome or in Shanghai. Already from this description, it is clear that once again fascinating objects will be exhibited at DSC Gallery, which cannot be captured or reproduced in full perfection in a photograph. It simply has to be seen and experienced with your own eyes.
