Exhibition & Viewing - 14th December - 20th December
In response to current art market climates ‘Christie’s racks up $745m in one night – and the bubble keeps inflating’ (Guardian 14th May 2014), as well as the increase in artists taking charge of their own sales; through internet/website presence, taking part in art fairs and accessing a new young crowd of hopeful collectors, artist led gallery C&C Gallery have decided to take the art market into their own hands. A spin on Hirst’s auction of 15th/16th September 2008, the gallery are bypassing themselves in a bid to promote emerging artists and recognise established artists’ achievements.
Live Auction 20th Dec 2014 @ C&C Gallery
This is not a charity auction in the usual sense, unless you consider supporting artists careers and the preservation of art - ‘charity’, which many people do. In support of artists C&C Gallery will not be asking for donations, they are foregoing all artist commission saving artists the usual 40 -50% in gallery fees.
Collectors will have the opportunity to buy artworks they may not be able to access at studio prices, it gives young collectors a foot in the collectors door at the same time as giving seasoned collectors opportunity to support the artists and artwork they love.
