The Penwith Society of Artists, founded in 1949, has been synonymous with the history of First, Second and Third generation Modernism in British Art.
An exhibition showcasing the artwork of artists who currently work out of the studios at the Penwith Galleries in St Ives will be showing a variety of approaches to continuing the cultural conversation of the Modernist revolution, which began in the early 1900s.
Although many of the artists are already well known from the regular Society shows; this will be the first time that these artists have come together to show as an identifiable grouping.
The Penwith Galleries studio complex was acquired in 1960. After many years of refurbishment, the site was developed into three exhibiting spaces, a print workshop and eleven working studios for painters and sculptors.
