Artist Julie Derbyshire shares her experiences of finding a new studio, joining a collective and taking part in a residency in Canada.
About
As an artist, setting a goal is important. But how does the artist get from 'where they are' to 'where they want to be'?
Set adrift after finishing your studies with little knowledge and no experience of how to go about developing an art practice? That’s how Julie felt after completing her Photography Masters a few years ago: ambitious to establish herself as a photographic artist but with no real idea of how to achieve it. In this talk Julie shares her insights on her route into a supportive artistic community and the benefits she continues to gain from it including studio space, an international residency and rewarding new friendships and connections.
About the artist:
Julie Derbyshire is a photographic artist working from her studio based in west London. She exhibits regularly in the UK and abroad and her work is held in private collections. She has received a number of awards and is represented by ECAD Gallery London.
