This exhibition is drawn from the ARTIST ROOMS collection and is part of a touring programme delivered by the National Galleries of Scotland and Tate in a partnership with Ferens Art Gallery until 2019, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, by Art Fund and by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
Arbus refused to take pictures of her subjects in ways that people wanted to see them. Her bold, direct approach to photography reveals the complexities of human nature and relationships, challenging ideas of gender, beauty and identity.
