About

Leon Chew will be discussing his current show, Asphalt Black, with the artist Andrew Curtis with whom he shares a studio and has worked with on collaborative projects including PayneShurvell's 'Your Garden is Looking a Mess (2011). The first solo show by British photographer Leon Chew includes a series of works based on blown-out car and truck tires, gathered during two journeys made through the Californian desert. Detailed photographs of these fragments made in Leon's London studio, printed on steel, are presented along with photographs questioning the role of photography, specifically in the context of 'the installation shot.' Also on display will be two anamorphic paintings referencing his desert journeys, to be viewed from a bench designed by Michael Marriott.
