The NCCD will present an evolutionary project for Alvarez allowing him to create another thread wrapping machine; building on his research from "Thread Wrapping Machine". Alvarez’s new machine will, in turn, create another new art form; a new medium, a new way of working, once again.

About

Following his Masters at the Royal College of Art, London, Alvarez has dedicated the last three years to one project Thread Wrapping Architecture, resulting in a new method of sculpting that can only exist in close symbiosis between the machine created by Alvarez and the artist himself.

Alvarez will embrace the challenge of designing an autonomous manufacturing system aiming to exclude human interaction from the making process entirely; liberating him and questioning the role of the maker, the artist and the curator.

The exhibition provides visitors with a unique opportunity to witness ground-breaking innovations in craft and design. Pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a sculptor. Anton Alvarez’s machine transforms the traditional exhibition space into a working factory
