Realist painter and urban planning architect Ana Schmidt was announced as the Winner of The Columbia Threadneedle Prize in 2018, the UK and Europe’s pre- eminent prize for Figurative Art Today.
For her winning work, ‘Dead End’, Ana received the competition’s First Prize of £20,000 and a solo exhibition at Mall Galleries.
In Schmidt’s solo show, City of Shards, the land is portrayed as protagonist, abandoned and decaying, on the edge of cities, or ‘taken’ from viewing platforms looking out over a distance revealing
the depersonalized and seemingly unnavigable layout of the city.
