About
Redeye member Dave Wilkinson presents an introduction to astrophotography as part of our new series of member-led events, where members suggest and host events based on their unique interests or skills.
'Have you ever sat and looked at the night sky? Pondered what may actually be up there? The naked eye, binoculars, telescopes, even mobile phone apps can all present the wonders of the night sky to you but it’s not until you open the camera's shutter to capture photons that some of its amazing beauty can be realised.
'This talk will introduce you to using your camera to capture the night sky, and some of the wonders that it holds.
'Join me at Godlee Observatory where I will talk through my journey in astrophotography. From setting up my camera in the garden with the longest lens I could find, to eventually buying a telescope and joining the groups of Astronomers across the North West in capturing ancient photons.
'The talk will be held in the Octagon room of the Godlee Observatory, and guided tours of the observatory telescopes in the dome above will be available.
'Weather permitting, the moon will be perfectly placed for observation across the Manchester skyline.' – Dave Wilkinson
