The large-scale oil paintings by Alex Gross refer to modern invasions of private space.

About

The artist Alex Gross lives and works in Los Angeles, California. In 1990, he received his bachelor’s degree at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Since then he has participated in eight individual exhibitions in various galleries and museum and gallery exhibitions all over the world. His large-scale oil paintings are based on the modern state of the art and focus on the corporate invasion of private space, the obsession with technology and the inability to be concentrated and attentive.

Gross received the renowned Artist’s Fellowship from the Japan Foundation and several faculty scholarships from the Art Center College of Design where he taught from 1994 to 2005. In the summer of 2007, Gross’ first Career Survey Museum Show took place at the Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, California.

In 2006, Chronicle Books published the artist’s first monograph entitled The Art of Alex Gross. Alex’s second Fine Art book, Discrepancies, was released in 2010 by Gingko Press and includes an introduction by the former LA Weekly art critic Doug Harvey. In 2012, Gingko published Gross’s third book Now And Then, The Cabinet Card Paintings, which includes 98 mixed media paintings. In October 2014, Gingko Press published a large book entitled “Future Tense” by Alex Gross. Future Tense includes 40 paintings from the years 2010 and 2014. In 2017, a solo exhibition of the artist takes place in Los Angeles. It is the first time in over a decade that he exhibits in Los Angeles.
