A British Council exhibition in partnership with the RIBA and the University of Liverpool. This exhibition showcases the work of the British Council Venice Fellows who each spent a month in Venice undertaking their own research projects.
About
La Biennale di Venezia is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. During the most recent Architecture Biennale The British Council presented ISLAND by architects Caruso St John and artist Marcus Taylor.
Caruso St John and Marcus Taylor responded to the Biennale theme of Freespace with the construction of a new public space on the roof of the British Pavilion. This elevated piazza offered visitors to the Giardini a place to meet and a unique vantage point looking out across the Lagoon.
The British Council invited 70 fellows to spend a month in Venice to undertake research which responded ISLAND and the city itself. This exhibition is their response and includes work by students from a variety of disciplines in different media – film, sound, architectural models, drawings, publications and performance.
To mark the launch of After ISLAND on 21 March, RIBA President Ben Derbyshire will chair a discussion with architect Peter St John, artist Marcus Taylor and the fellows on the role of activities like La Biennale di Venezia on architectural practice. Register here to attend.
