Ad Hoc Creative, a collaboration between Bido Lito! Magazine and Ad Hoc Property Management, have announced ‘No Worst, There is None’, a one-off audio visual composition for LightNight 2016 being held at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on Friday 13th May. The project, based around IMMIX ensemble founder Daniel Thorne’s arrangement of a gorgeous Bill Ryder-Jones orchestral piece, will feature Liverpool Cathedral Youth Choir and visual artists Sam and Damien Wiehl, resulting in a stunning large scale immersive audio visual performance.

The artwork, which is based around Bill Ryder-Jones’ sweeping response to the Gerard Manley Hopkins poem from which this project is named, is to be presented within an immersive, multimedia, light and AV environment, and performed twice (9pm and 10pm) during the evening of 13th May at Liverpool Cathedral. Additionally, the large scale performance will feature readings of ‘No Worst, There Is None’ from members of Liverpool-based social enterprise The Reader’s community reading groups.

Bill Ryder-Jones said of the project: “Writing the 'No Worst, There Is None' commission was one of the most enjoyable jobs I've had. Expressing my thoughts on a source material in music is something I've done and loved doing for a while now. This project was no different. I was told that I could do whatever I wanted to create a musical interpretation to the Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem, and more importantly I was never asked to explain myself in it.”

“Once again Liverpool proves itself to be a home for esoteric and conceptual happenings and as we all know, a place where people want more from the arts than the posturing and showboating that is offered in the main. It is a real pleasure to be thought of as someone who writes music worth hearing and I can't wait to hear what Daniel Thorne does with the scraps of melody I've given.”

LightNight is Liverpool’s annual late night arts festival recognised when the city’s arts and heritage organisations join forces to create a large-scale showcase of its vibrant cultural offer. Each May, thousands of visitors of all ages choose from over 100 free events at over 50 city centre locations to form their own culture crawl. With museums, galleries and art spaces across the city open until late, and over 100 special cultural events for visitors of all ages, it is a unique city and region-wide collaboration. The Ad Hoc Creative commission ‘No Worst, There Is None’ at The Anglican Cathedral will be one of this year’s marquee events.
