Individual new work by Zita Foley Saffrette and Gill Newton, showing film-based photography and cyanotypes, pen and ink drawings, layered drawings and sculptural assemblages.
A Strange Lightness joins the work of two artists who - in their own separate practices - look at the natural world for explorations of time, matter and the intersections between the layers of these fundamentals. The processes involved in the making of these works are lodged within them both in their materiality and in memory. Gill uses natural and humble found materials to make assemblages of unexpected elegance, curiosity and fascination. Zita uses historic and traditional photographic techniques to consider patterns of time through seasonal change , bird migration, tidal cycles and the deep time of rock formations.
