About

In Studio One Gallery A REEL A REEL is an exhibition of newer works by Christopher Shilling, investigating some points of agreement between fly-fishing and painting. The work delves into the notions of subject matter, illusion, audience and the history of painting. Christopher Shilling's work uses various mediums and aesthetic qualities to imply the redundancy of making art and the historical baggage that must be navigated in both its viewing and manufacture. In essence the work acknowledges its impotence at conveying the absurdity of making art, by admitting it is already within the cycle of the mechanisms it is trying to critique. It has already been made. Alongside In Forever and Ever 'These Four Walls' // Christopher Page, Marti Gerstmann, Aislinn Dowling, Jeremy Brann, Carla Meyer// These four walls brings together recent work from an international crop of artists. All the works in the exhibition, though apparently various, orbit around the artists exploration of their own desire structure. These appear through different channels of engagement varying from the explicitly personal to the malignantly irreverent.
