Aprile’s practice is tied to the canvas as a soil on which he leaves explosive and colourful traces, placing chaos in order that others have confused. Depicting bacterial, microbiological or cellular worlds and beyond that is often indefinable and inconceivable. Mixing it with fragments of landscape undefined on a map and finally leading us towards snippets of a human existence or possibly the identity of our own bodies. A lush green colour is a constant contributor in Aprile’s work which repeats in quiet or loud abstractions or shapes, returning us to earth. Aprile states that “thought and body have not always lived together” and painting has become a means to reason on his surroundings and the human body through colour light and darkness. An image frozen in the perfect moment capturing time, wind and caos.
Federico Aprile has exhibited internationally; he received a BA and MA in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. In 2015 he was awarded the drawing prize from the Codice Italia Academy, Biennale di Venezia. His recent awards and exhibitions include his participation at the GAM, Mantegna house, Mantua, Display, Parma and was a finalist in the painting category at the Laguna Art Prize, Venice in 2016.
