Cos Ahmet’s practice is preoccupied by the relationship between the body and materiality. Explored through sculpture, installation, moving image, performance and collaboration, Ahmet’s work examines how the body intervenes with a material that changes its language with each contact attempt, asking when the body stops being and becomes the material. Ahmet’s material objects are frequently activated, via his own interaction, and more recently, triggered by his chosen collaborators he appoints. These ‘triggers’ or prompts are activated through a form of instruction, encouraged to be deviated to build upon a language or a set of nuances. As a result, these enactments of the objects reflect upon the conditions under which the body performs sculptural gestures, giving the objects a certain charge in what Ahmet refers to as ‘body-material’ and ‘object-space’ interventions. This transforms the works that Ahmet develops into ‘choreographic objects’, that not only serve as stand-alone sculptures, but possess a life before and after the act, in what the artist coined, and has started to express as ‘pre-post-performance-props’.
