An exhibition exploring the influence of Japan-inspired textiles in the UK
About
Over time, the Japanese mastery of weaving, dyeing, embroidery and stitching techniques has created a rich and assorted array of decorated textiles. These textiles have proved to be a source of inspiration for many in this country.
By presenting eight artists who together have mastered weaving, dyeing, embroidery and stitching techniques, this exhibition proves the vibrancy of Japan-inspired craft in this country.
- Janice Gunner - stitched textiles, shibori, quilting
- Ross Belton - natural dyes, fabrics and found objects
- Jacqui Carey - kumihimo braiding
- Erna Janine - saori weaving
- Kinoshita Seiko - textile-based installations
- Caroline Hyde-Brown - embroidery, stitching
- Rob Jones - shibori, natural dyes
- Takadoi Kazuhito - natural materials
Each artist has their own special story and connection with their craft but when viewed as a whole, their work shows careful consideration towards environmental concerns and the importance of preserving the legacy of textile art in the future.
