As the final leg of the international touring exhibition, Removed from the Eyes of Strangers is a culmination of a four-year research project. We asked the artists involved to develop new work that draws inspiration from the writings of Sigmund Freud, especially in relation to his seminal essay, 'The Uncanny'. Rather than simply referencing Freud's theory, these final four artists attempt to engineer a visceral, physical uncanny occurence that causes the viewer to momentarily question their preconceptions of, and relationship to, the material world.
