A highly anticipated Solo Exhibition by Award Winning Artist and elected member of the Pastel Society, Martin Goold PS.
About
"Heightened sensation of nocturnal atmosphere and the poetic and mysterious quality of moonlight have inspired my recent work.
Familiar places such as Lyme Harbour, or the distant horizon line of the open sea, have once again become my starting points but I have tried to bring a new narrative feeling into these paintings.
The directness of a clean horizon of sea and sky has also allowed for a greater freedom of abstraction; both geometry and flow of paint have been given more autonomy.
The Mythology and symbolism connected to the moon that has interested me is too extensive and varied to describe in an exhibition introduction, suffice to say that this highly potent subject has been a driving influence behind this new work. In any case I prefer to let the viewer bring their own preferred lunar stories into the reading of the paintings.
Looking to a distant horizon, the promise of new discovery and the excitement and unpredictability of the journey, has long been a fascination for me and the central works in this exhibition bring together these two themes of nocturne and journey."
