About
The Swiss Dieter Roth (1930-1998) is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Based on his extensive work can be an example of the Dissolution of Artistic show, so that process in the 1960s, when artists traditional forms of expression were painting and sculpture behind and new genres such as multiple, performance, body art and multi- media installation developed.
The exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart dedicated a big issue in Roth's oeuvre, which so far has received little attention: the use of language and literature, the leitmotif through almost all his work groups. In fact, Roth has mainly understood as a writer, who was looking at his picture artistic work as a way to earn money for writing. Throughout his life wrote Roth lyrical texts, essays, plays and diaries, issued magazines and worked as a publisher. On the basis of significant works from different periods, the exhibition documents, such as text and image with Dieter Roth are inextricably linked and how they affect the activity fields of literature and art in an unfinished cycle each other.
