A day of feminist design workshsops and activities
The Design Feminisms Research Group at Northumbria University invites you to a 'Day of Happenings' filled with workshops, discussions, and activities to explore meanings and practices of 'design feminisms'. This day takes place as part of the inaugural group exhibition at Gallery North.
If you would like to run an activity during our day, please get in touch with Angelika (angelika.strohmayer@northumbria.ac.uk) to arrange how we can make that happen.
Some details are still being worked out, but here is a rough schedule of the day:
About the exhibition: We start from an understanding that design is, and has always been, plural. Design has many origin stories reflecting multiple and sometimes contradictory ways of being found both within Western and Global Majority societies. The Design Feminisms exhibition uses this grounding as a basis to explore feminisms with, through, and for design. We are interested in how feminist theory and practice relates to design, in all its iterations, that explore feminist design praxis as process rather than outcome – building solidarity by exhibiting together.
This is the first exhibition from the Design Feminisms Research Group (DFRG) which is made up of early career academics across disciplines in the design school as well as PhD students with interdisciplinary backgrounds.
