Tony Cragg at Oriel Myrddin

About

On tour from the South Bank Arts Centre Tony Cragg's 1978 installation will be showing in Oriel Myrddin Gallery during January and february. Tony Cragg rose to public prominence during the early 1980's with a series of works in which previously used and discarded fragments were organised formally in the gallery setting. In the seminal work ‘New Stones — Newton's Tones', plastic debris is arranged by colour category on the gallery floor. Cragg suggests that physical matter, and the break-up and re-ordering of it, is fundamental to our experience of the world and that it literally grounds us in our understanding of self and place. Cragg's prolific and internationally acclaimed output has profoundly influenced contemporary sculptural practice. Cragg won the prestigious Turner Prize in 1988.
