About
An Awkward Apprehension brings together three artists who each seize upon something that is difficult to bring clarity to. The extent to which an apprehension withstands its own realisation through imagery creates an awkwardness of vision that seems always to illuminate more than is apparent. Such is the case here.Sam Rutherford's painterly photographic-forms seem pulled from felt places held in the body, yet are deliberately filtered through mechanical spaces.
Glen Snow's Zen-like Rorschach paintings fuse the accidental with the deliberate to create images that hover between the reality of its facture and the illusionary.
Kim Thornton's photography and textile art recalls a familiar yet distorted memory, which blurs the boundary between folktale and quotidian functionality.
