All The Things That We Can Do: Part 35. Jul - 6. Jul 14 / ended Shoreditch Town Hall
10.30am - 5.30pm
Using choreographic strategies to engage with politics and citizenship through the body.
With Hamish MacPherson and Maria Sideri.
This is the third of six art/ life events for artists, philosophers and other citizens using choreographic strategies to engage with politics and citizenship through the body.
“Listen to a woman speak at a public gathering (if she hasn’t painfully lost her wind). She doesn’t “speak,” she throws her trembling body forward; she lets go of herself, she flies; all of her passes into her voice, and it’s with her body that she vitally supports the “logic” of her speech. Her flesh speaks true..” -- Helene Cixous
Practice may include sounding; imitating voice and movements; speaking for each other; changing our voices ourselves and with the help of others; collective repetition; non-rational non-linear composition; shaking; trances; trying different modes of speech. It will finish by opening out to a small invited audience.
Hamish MacPherson is a dance artist interested in connecting choreography to non-dance contexts, drawing on a background in applied philosophy and working as a senior policy adviser in the civil service.
