Using choreographic strategies to engage with politics and citizenship through the body.

This is the first of six art/ life events for artists, philosophers and other citizens using choreographic strategies to engage with politics and citizenship through the body.

“Within a patriarchal framework, care is a feminine ethic. Within a democratic framework, care is a human ethic. A feminist ethic of care is a different voice with a patriarchal culture because it joins reason with emotion, mind with body, self with relationships, men with women, resisting the division that maintain a patriarchal order” - Carol Gilligan

Practice for this one day event may include Authentic Movement; mapping care networks; lifting; carrying; supporting; delegating; listening; and witnessing.

Hamish MacPherson is a dance artist interested in connecting choreography to non-dance contexts, drawing on a background in applied philosophy and working as a senior policy adviser in the civil service.

This project is supported through Chisenhale Dance Space's Allotment programme - nurturing projects where artists take the lead - and by Shoreditch Town Hall and the University of Roehampton.
