About

An Inexact Science brings together new work resulting from ongoing experiments with found materials, including some pieces which originated from six months working at Summerhall in 2013.

Given the right conditions, a chance encounter with a discarded object triggers a chain reaction, with a series of associated thoughts and actions leading to its transformation. The result might then act as a catalyst for a new piece….. and so the process continues, the outcome always unpredictable.

Created from everyday materials, and bits of the random flotsam and jetsam of life that washes up in our streets, skips and attics, what emerges might be a drawing, a painting, a collage, a sculpture, or something somewhere in between

[London-based artist Sally Webber is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and a former studio artist at Summerhall. She was selected for the 2013 RSA New Contemporaries exhibition and was recently shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize.]
