About

Led by Desdemona McCannon , Senior Lecturer Art History and Contextual Studies at MMU & Yadzia Williams, Senior Lecturer in Design Communication at Glyndwr University. This exciting event will coincide with the Oriel Wrecsam exhibitions, ‘The wolves are running' and ‘and Also', and will examine the way 'lore' is illustrated and the link between documenting folk art and using it in creative practice. The idea of the artist as ethnographer, the turn to ‘folk' values in contemporary art and design cultures, and the distinction between ‘professional' and ‘amateur' creativity will be discussed. Then, following a ‘bring and share' picnic lunch, the group will separate into two Breakout Sessions: i) Looking at Welsh folk art: pattern making workshop (brush and ink/rubber stamps) ii) The Polish folk tradition of pajaki paper chandeliers Plenary Session to close.
