Rob Pointon 'Year of the Boat'

Burlsem based Rob Pointon, returns to the Granary Art Gallery to exhibit his creative scenes from working outdoors around the UK, for a selling exhibition throughout December.

He paints scenes of landscapes, cityscapes, and life class studio portraits. His finished works have freshness, vitality, dynamism and are full of movement - a result of painting 'en plein air' (outdoors) and applying rapid brush strokes.

Since January 2012 Rob has been producing work for his "Year of the Boat" project. Whilst living on a narrow boat and travelling around the UK on the canal network, Rob visited towns, landscapes and historic sites to document his visits. The resulting works show Rob's incredible ability to capture architecture, people and places. This is a touring exhibition and a selection of works will be on display.

Away from small towns and landscapes he is equally at home at the V Festival or the Queen's Diamond Jubilee River Pageant which he captured on canvas in 2012.

Painting professionally for seven years, Rob has exhibited widely across the UK. He was the first prize winner of the Open competition at Newcastle Borough Museum and Art Gallery in 2009 and was also the regional prize winner in our own Fine Art Open in the Granary Art Gallery in 2011.

Rob's work is also held in the private collections of HRH the Prince of Wales and the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.
