Since 1986, the Konsti Art has been inspired by the Nordic landscape, ever-changing light and four seasons. For the first time in Surrey, the exhibition presents craft from Western Finland by Susanna Beloff, Kaarin Hellman, Juha Koskela, Tuulikki Päällysaho, Päivi Rintaniemi, Minna Tuohisto-Kokko and Maisa Turunen-Wiklund. Finns have long had an inherent appreciation and understanding of the cultural importance of design and craft. Nordic design emerged in the 1950s as a movement characterised by simplicity, minimalism and functionality. Today, there are many indications of the large part that crafts and design play in the everyday lives of the Finn. For example, in Finland there are some 2,500 art associations, one of the highest per capita in Europe.
