About

British artist film-maker Helen Petts was commissioned by the Hatton Gallery Newcastle to make this moving image and sound work for installation alongside Kurt Schwitters' Merzbarn Wall. Filming with a variety of small digital cameras, she followed his route from Nazi Germany to Norway and the Lake District exploring landscapes and paths, found objects, textures, rhythms and sounds on the way. The work also includes improvised performances on objects, hardanger fiddle and voice by musicians Adam Bohman, Sylvia Hallett, Roger Turner and Phil Minton. Part of Late at the Tate Schwitters evening with live music and poetry.
