FOLD Gallery | London and Curio Cabal are pleased to introduce – BRIDGES – the inaugural exhibition of London-based curatorial collective, arbor&time. BRIDGES is one exhibition in two spaces - straddling the River Thames, the exhibition, in its two distinct but interdependent parts, can be seen at both FOLD Gallery in Clerkenwell and CURIO CABAL in London Bridge.
In a recent collaboration with the curatorial collective fullhouse, arbor&time explored mass-production in its antithesis – the meticulous process of re-editing and re-evaluating a manufactured, mechanically-fabricated product of mass, whilst allowing for it to become both hand-crafted and unique.
arbor&time now consider our infatuation with the artisanal and the archaic – The digital age has popularised a branded, and pre-packaged nostalgic experience – everything is a bit brighter with an overlaid Instagram filter. If nostalgia really was considered a sickness in 1770, then there's an epidemic in our new generation.
Memory is an involuntary moment – it can be triggered, and provoked, by sensory experience. Memory contributes to our perceptions, although it lies in the crux of our subconscious, leaving us little control. It is perception that lies amidst the physical and the psychological – Perception acts as the bridge between the work and its audience.
