Florida museum heads to London for the Olympic Games
The Art of the Olympians Museum and Art Gallery in Fort Myers, Florida is crossing the Atlantic for an exclusive three week pop up exhibition in UCL in central London during the Olympic Games. The exhibition, which runs from July 25- August 13, gives visitors a unique chance to see multi format art from past and present gold medal winning athletes with an exciting array of Olympic related art as well as Olympic memorabilia and an outdoor art walk.
The Olympic Museum was started by four-time consecutive Olympic gold medalist in discus, the late Al Oerter, and is now run by Olympic legend Bob Beamon, best known for his world record in the long jump at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico, which has remained unchallenged for 43 years. Beamon is joined by a family of more than 70 international Olympian artists who have all dedicated art to the museum.
The exhibition is open from 11am to 11pm and is located in the Haldane Room in UCL’s main Wilkins building (nearest tube- Euston). Entry is free. Details on Art of the Olympians can be seen at www.artoftheolympians.org.
